Deccan International’s mission is to provide the powerful tools Fire & EMS leaders need to make the right decisions for their communities. We create smart, easy-to-use software that takes the guesswork out of managing Fire & EMS services.
Deccan International was founded in 1995 by Latha and Raj Nagaraj. It began when Raj was working for the government of the District of Columbia, where he was tasked with improving the metropolitan police department’s handling of 9-1-1 calls. Raj proposed substituting consulting reports with an unprecedented map-based station and apparatus analysis tool. District Fire Chief Otis Latin began testing Raj’s proposal to explore alternate scenarios for his own department. Impressed with the results, Chief Latin invited Raj to present at the Metro Fire Chief’s Conference where the tool was successfully embraced. Fire chiefs nationwide asked if such a tool could be built for their own agencies. With the encouragement of first responders in both Fire & EMS, Raj and Latha soon launched Deccan International. Deccan not only offered modeling software analysis tools for Fire & EMS departments, but also performed consulting and project management, through which first-class client support quickly became the company’s trademark.

Together, they have dedicated more than 20 years to supporting Fire & EMS departments with Deccan’s customized software solutions and unrivaled customer service. Today, through client departments, Deccan decision-support applications collectively serve over 70 million people in the United States and more than 1 in 3 in Canada. As President & CEO, Latha sets the bar for going above and beyond the expectations of Deccan clients by building trusted relationships with Fire & EMS leaders and delivering personalized service to their departments. As Chief Technology Officer, Raj drives the constant innovation behind Deccan’s industry-leading technology with his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research and 30+ years of experience in development and modeling for Fire & EMS operations. Together, Latha and Raj lead the talented team of “Deccanites” – including passionate Project Managers, innovative Operations Research Developers, and skilled Data Analysts – in Deccan's commitment to helping Fire & EMS departments better serve their communities.
